BJP’s Thrissur Protest: Anger Over Clashes, Gopi’s Office Vandalized, Action Demanded

THRISSUR, Kerala – August 13, 2025:Things got heated in Thrissur this Wednesday as a load of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) folks marched to the City Police Commissioner’s office. Why? They were mad about the attacks on their crew and some damage to Union Minister Suresh Gopi’s office. It seems like some Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) activists did the damage. The march, led by some big state names, showed how ticked off the BJP was, and they wanted the cops to do something about it. The police were ready for trouble, so they brought in a bunch of officers and used water cannons three times to break up the crowd that was stuck at the barricades.

How This Mess Started

So, on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, BJP and CPI(M) workers got into a fight. This was because they’ve been arguing about some alleged funny business with the voter list in Thrissur—it’s been a sore spot since the last election; it is said that votes were fake.

First, CPI(M) workers protested at the MP’s office and poured black oil on a signboard. Just a way to say they don’t like Suresh Gopi.

Then, BJP workers marched to the CPI(M) office to get back at them. Things went south, and both sides started throwing rocks. At least five BJP people got hurt.

That BJP march to the police? It was basically them saying the cops aren’t doing enough to stop the CPI(M) guys who caused the trouble.

The Protest and Cops

The march was headed up by some big shots like K. Surendran and Shobha Surendran. The protesters (lots of women among them) waved party flags and yelled stuff against the CPI(M) and the state’s Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.

When they got to the police barricades near the commissioner’s office, they wouldn’t move. Some even climbed the barricades, waving their flags.

The cops used water cannons three times to push them back. But the BJP folks stood their ground, and the whole thing ended with a public meet-up right there.

What They Said

At the meeting, K. Surendran wasn’t happy. He said the BJP wouldn’t let anyone, like the LDF and Congress, mess with what the people of Thrissur wanted. He thinks the LDF is stirring up trouble.

Shobha Surendran agreed, calling the vandalism at Suresh Gopi’s office an insult to democracy and the voters. She thinks the ruling party and the police have different rules for different people.

Suresh Gopi showed up in Thrissur on Wednesday but didn’t join the march. He didn’t say much about the voter list stuff either, just sarcastically thanked the media.

He visited the injured BJP workers at the hospital and then checked out his trashed office. People are giving him grief for not talking about the voter list issue.

What’s the Deal with the Voter Fraud?

It all started with claims that votes were messed with in Thrissur, where Suresh Gopi won by a lot. The CPI and Congress say a bunch of names were added to the voter list illegally.

They’re saying that people from other areas, even Gopi’s relatives, got their names on the Thrissur list. The opposition wants a big investigation.

The BJP says all this is nonsense. They think the CPI(M) and Congress are teaming up to undermine Suresh Gopi’s win. This fight is why things are so tense and violent.

What It Means

These clashes and protests show how much the BJP and LDF don’t like each other in Kerala. The BJP winning in Thrissur was a big deal for them, and the LDF is trying hard to say that win wasn’t real.

What’s happening in Thrissur proves that things can get out of hand and turn violent, especially when people are yelling about election fraud.

The cops using water cannons also makes you wonder about how they handle crowds and people’s rights to protest. The BJP thinks the cops are siding with the LDF government.

This whole mess will probably shake things up in Thrissur and Kerala for a while. Everyone’s watching to see if the police and the LDF government will give the BJP what they want.
