16 BSF Soldiers Get Medals for Bravery in Operation Sindoor
NEW DELHI, India – August 14, 2025: Sixteen Border Security Force (BSF) people are being recognized with medals for being super brave during Operation Sindoor. The awards were announced on Thursday just before India’s 79th Independence Day, and they’re for the Seema Praharis who were key in the military operation. It all started after a horrible terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that killed 26 people. Operation Sindoor, running from May 7 to May 10, was payback; it targeted terrorist and military spots in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Bravery Under Fire
The award write-ups tell stories of the BSF people doing some amazing things while under constant fire from the enemy. During the operation, BSF troops along the Line of Control and International Border were hit hard with shelling and drone attacks from Pakistani forces. The troops took down drones and wrecked Pakistani posts and spy gear, even when they were being shot at with all kinds of weapons.
Among those getting medals are a deputy commandant, two assistant commandants, and an inspector. The awards mention things like Assistant Sub-Inspector Rajappa B.T. and Constable Manohar Xalxo getting hurt by a mortar shell but still getting ammunition to the troops at the front lines in Karotana Khurd, Karotana Forward, and Suchetagarh.
Specific Acts of Courage
Assistant Sub-Inspector Devi Lal showed crazy toughness. Even after getting hit by shrapnel, he took out a Pakistani spy camera and kept shooting at an enemy Heavy Machine Gun (HMG) position. The write-up says his actions made sure Indian forces could keep control, and he pushed his fellow troops to keep going.
Officers like Assistant Commandant Alok Negi are also being recognized for strong leadership, especially how he led his troops through a long, hard fight at the front line in Mukhyari. These 16 people were a big reason Operation Sindoor worked out.
What Was Operation Sindoor About?
Operation Sindoor was set off by a terrible terror attack back on April 22, where 26 people, mostly tourists, died in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadows. The BSF teamed up with the Indian Army and other groups and played a major part in the 88-hour operation, hitting terrorist hideouts and gear across the border.
The BSF didn’t just go on the attack; they also stopped Pakistani drones and mortar attacks. The awards are part of a bigger announcement of 1,090 service medals for police and security people all over the country, pointing out how important the BSF is as India’s First Line of Defence.
