CRPF Tragedy: Three Personnel Killed, 15 Injured in Udhampur Vehicle Accident
UDHAMPUR, Jammu and Kashmir – August 7, 2025: A really awful accident in J&K’s Udhampur area has left three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldiers dead and 15 others hurt. It happened when a vehicle carrying the soldiers slid off a road and went down into a deep ditch around Kandva-Basantgarh.
Bad Crash on Mountain Road
The accident was at about 10:30 this morning. The CRPF vehicle, from the 187th Battalion, was coming back from an operation in Basantgarh. It had 23 soldiers in it. Near Kadwa, the vehicle went off the road and into a ditch.
Early reports say two soldiers died right away, and 16 were hurt. They were quickly taken to a hospital nearby. Sadly, another soldier who was badly hurt died at the hospital, bringing the total dead to three. They’re still looking into what caused the accident, but officials think the tough roads in the mountains might have played a role.
Quick Rescue Work and Help from Locals
After the accident, a big rescue operation started. The J&K Police, the Indian Army, and local authorities worked together. Local people really helped out, rushing to try and pull the injured soldiers from the wrecked vehicle.
The injured soldiers were first taken to a hospital nearby for immediate care. The ones with really bad injuries, reportedly five in serious shape, were moved to a better hospital in Udhampur for more help. A police chief, Sandeep Bhat, told reporters about the rescue.
Officials Offer Sympathy
The accident has led to lots of sympathy from top officials. The Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, said he was very sad about the deaths. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that they would never forget the soldiers’ service to the country, sending thoughts to the families and wishing the injured a fast recovery.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, who represents Udhampur in parliament, also sent his sympathies. He said he was talking to Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, who is watching the situation closely. Dr. Singh thanked the local villagers for helping with the rescue, pointing out the strong bond between the security forces and the locals.
Dangers of Mountain Areas
This accident shows how dangerous it is for security forces in J&K’s tough areas. The Kandva-Basantgarh road is known for being risky, with narrow spots and steep drops, which always pose a threat when moving troops.
This is a reminder of the sacrifices made by CRPF soldiers. They’re not just on guard against threats but also deal with the everyday risks of the area. The CRPF’s 187th Battalion has been working in this sensitive area for a while. The loss of their fellow soldiers has made everyone very sad.
The families of the soldiers who died have been told, and the CRPF is starting to give them all the help they need. They’re also looking into what caused the accident to try and stop anything like this from happening again.
