Fatal Downpour: Man Dies After Tree Collapses in South Delhi, Daughter Injured

NEW DELHI, India – August 14, 2025:A really sad thing happened today. A man died, and his daughter got hurt when a big tree fell on their motorcycle in Kalkaji, South Delhi. It was around 10 a.m. on Thursday. The city got hit with really hard rain and wind that messed everything up. The man who died was Arvind Kumar, 54. He lived nearby. His daughter, Sonia, who’s 21, got rushed to the hospital. This shows how risky the monsoon season can be. Stuff around us, like trees, can be dangerous when the weather is bad.

A Bad Thing on the Way to Somewhere

This happened on a street close to the Nehru Place Metro station, a busy part of South Delhi. A Delhi Traffic Police person said that Kumar and his daughter were on their motorcycle when this huge tree—maybe weakened by the rain—just fell over. It was quick and awful. The man got crushed, and his daughter was stuck under the tree.

The police and fire department showed up fast. They got the tree out of the way and saved the people. But Arvind Kumar was already dead. His daughter went to the hospital with a lot of injuries.

Problems and Risks All Over the City

This isn’t the only thing that happened in Delhi today. All the rain started early and caused a lot of flooding. Traffic got really bad on roads like Ring Road, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, and the DND flyway.

The weather people (IMD) put out a warning telling everyone to watch out because there could be more rain, storms, and strong winds. So, things could get worse.

Trees falling and buildings falling apart have been happening a lot lately. Just a few days ago, on August 9, some walls fell on some shacks in Jaitpur after the rain. Seven people died, including two kids. Everyone started talking about how to keep people safe and what to do with the city’s buildings and stuff.

Monsoon Season is Dangerous

This kind of thing has happened before this monsoon season. On May 2, in Dwarka, a tree fell on a room and killed a woman and her three kids. Her husband got hurt too. It shows that bad weather can really hurt people when cities aren’t ready for it.

The people in charge of the city (MCD and PWD) have heard a lot of complaints about flooding and trees falling. They’re trying to help, but it’s hard because the weather has been really bad.

The city is checking into what happened in Kalkaji. They’re going to look at the tree to see if it was sick or if they messed up somehow. People are saying that the city needs to check old trees more often, especially near busy roads, to make sure they’re safe.
