Huge Infrastructure Projects in Gujarat and Rajasthan Fast-Tracked by Centre

NEW DELHI- July 8, 2025: A major push has been given by the central government for the implementation of 18 important infrastructure projects costing ₹36,296 crore across Gujarat and Rajasthan. The PMG of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry held a high-level meeting last week to address 22 critical issues stalling projects and aimed to resolve these bottlenecks for the timely completion of these projects.

Renewable Energy and Digital Connectivity in Focus

The Transmission System Strengthening Scheme, estimated at ₹14,147 crore, has been given a major push under this accelerated approach. This scheme is critical for the evacuation of power from solar energy zones in both states. In Rajasthan, these sectors are in Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Barmer, whereas, in Gujarat, the scheme is targeting Surendranagar, Patan, and Kutch. Such types of projects are very important for seamless integration of huge renewable energy capacities into the national grid and for delivering electricity to areas of consumption throughout India.

Another major initiative which is also being overseen under this action is that of the rollout of 5G and 4G networks of Reliance Jio, declared as a project of national importance. This is to extend 5G mobile services in unserved and far-flung areas while strengthening the existing 4G infrastructure thereby improving significantly digital connectivity, especially in strategically important regions.

Addressing Bottlenecks and Promoting Coordination

The meeting chaired by Praveen Mahto, Principal Economic Adviser, DPIIT, was attended by senior officials from central ministries, state governments, and key private project proponents. Main discussions revolved around resolving the persistent challenges such as right-of-way issues and land acquisition, which have historically delayed large-scale projects.

He stressed that a proactive approach is needed from all authorities involved and further encouraged private project proponents to effectively utilize the PMG platform. He said that there should be effective coordination among Central Ministries, State Governments, and private stakeholders so that any issues related to project implementation could be resolved in time and in an efficient manner while reiterating the commitment of the government to strengthen the institutional framework of project monitoring.

Broader Impact and Economic Benefits

These infrastructure projects are bound to catalyze economic benefits by providing employment, facilitating industrial growth, and increasing logistics efficiency in the region. Emphasis on renewable energy complements India’s broader climate goals and energy security objectives. Successful and timely commissioning of these projects is paramount in giving momentum to India’s ambitious infrastructure development plan and creating an enabling environment for industrial growth and digital inclusion.
