India Sticks to Supporting Two-State Solution for Israel-Palestine Situation at UN Meeting
NEW YORK CITY – July 30, 2025: At a big UN conference, India was clear: it still backs a two-state solution for the Israel-Palestine mess. India thinks everyone should really try to make this happen through talks and being diplomatic. India’s main person at the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, said that India has always believed that Palestine should have its own safe, real country, with borders that everyone agrees on. This country would live peacefully next to Israel—that’s what’s needed for lasting peace.
Let’s Get Real Solutions
During the UN High-Level International Conference on ‘How to Settle the Palestine Question and Get the Two-State Solution Going,’ Ambassador Harish said we need more than just ideas on paper. We need real solutions that actually help Palestinians every day. He said that talking about this conference has made it clear that the world still thinks the two-state idea is super important.
Gaza’s Mess
Ambassador Harish also pointed out how awful things are in Gaza right now. People are really suffering. He said that tons of people have been killed, hospitals are wrecked, and kids haven’t been able to go to school for almost two years. India says Gaza needs aid right away—food, fuel, and the basics. And this help shouldn’t be part of any political game.
What Needs to Happen Now
India is very clear about what needs to happen ASAP: stop the fighting now, get aid to those who need it, and free all the hostages. Ambassador Harish said there’s simply no other way. He also thanked the countries that have helped make these things happen between the groups that are fighting.
Security and Fixing Things
India also talked about security, saying it’s super important to have things stable so both sides feel safe. No one should feel like they’re in danger. Looking forward, India said that Gaza is going to need a lot of fixing up in the next few years. India said it’s ready to help with these important efforts, especially with projects that focus on helping people.
Why India Cares
India has a long history of supporting Palestine. Way back in 1988, India was one of the first countries to say that Palestine should be its own country. India has always voted ‘yes’ on UN resolutions about Palestine getting to decide its future and finding peace. India has put about $160 million into helping Palestine develop, with projects that try to make life better for Palestinians.
What the UN Chief Said
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also spoke at the conference, asking what other option there is besides a two-state solution. He said that a situation where Palestinians don’t have equal rights or are forced off their land is just not okay—it’s not peace, it’s not fair, and it’s against the rules. Guterres said that Palestine having its own country is a right, not a reward, and denying them that will only make extremists stronger.
