Israel has seriously stepped up its bombing campaign in Gaza, killing 89 people in just 24 hours as they expand their offensive.

GAZA CITY, Palestine – August 12, 2025:Things have gotten much worse as Israeli forces have started a new, stronger round of airstrikes and shelling all over Gaza. Sadly, at least 89 Palestinians have died, and 513 are hurt in just one day, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. This big jump in violence happened after Israel’s security team, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said okay to a bigger military attack in Gaza City, which has caused immediate anger from international groups and governments.

Lots of Bombing and People Dying

The newest numbers from the Health Ministry on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, show that this was one of the deadliest days so far. People who live there said that the bombing was the worst they’ve seen in weeks. The east side of Gaza City, including areas like Sabra, Zeitoun, and Shejaia, was hit hard. One person living there told reporters that it felt like the war started all over again. Every time something was hit, the ground shook.

Mahmud Bassal, who speaks for Gaza’s civil defense, said that the strikes have been very strong and have been hitting people’s homes, causing a lot of damage. He also said that rescue teams can’t get to many of the people stuck under the rubble because the bombing hasn’t stopped.

Targeting News People and People Waiting for Aid

Sadly, a group of six news reporters was killed in a strike near Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital. One of them was Anas Al-Sharif, who worked for Al Jazeera. The news network is saying that Israel is purposely going after news reporters to hide what they’re doing.

The Israeli military is saying that Al-Sharif was a Hamas fighter, but Al Jazeera and other news groups say that’s not true. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and others are asking for a fair investigation into the attack, calling it a serious violation of international law.

To make things worse, the Gaza Health Ministry said that 31 people were killed while waiting in line for food. Since the fighting started, over 1,500 people have died while trying to get help. The number of people dying from hunger has gone up to 227, with five more Palestinians, including two kids, dying from not having enough food in the last day.

The World Is Angry and Worried

Because of the new offensive and so many people dying, countries all over the world are saying they’re not happy about it. The United Nations is warning that Israel’s plans could start another disaster and make the humanitarian crisis even worse. A UN official said that the only way to stop the suffering in Gaza is to have a full, immediate, and permanent ceasefire.

Several countries, like France, Germany, and the UK, are very worried and are asking Israel to stop its military actions. They want all hostages to be released right away and for Israel to allow a lot of aid to be delivered. The foreign ministers of 24 countries, including the EU’s foreign policy leader, said together that we need to take action now to stop people from starving.

What’s Happening Politically and the Ongoing Crisis

The reason for all this is complicated. Israel’s government says that the new offensive is needed to win the war, but some people in Israel don’t agree. Some Israeli politicians and family members of the hostages are worried that a bigger ground invasion could put the hostages in danger and cause a long, expensive war.

This is all part of a fight that started in October 2023. The Gaza Health Ministry says that over 61,500 Palestinians have been killed since the war began, and over 154,000 are hurt. The UN says that these numbers are correct and show how bad things are. As the fighting continues, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is getting worse, and the world is struggling to find a way to make peace and have a two-state solution.
