JAIPUR: Woman Out on Bail After Retired Army Officer Killed in Hit-and-Run

JAIPUR, Rajasthan, India – August 17, 2025:People are mad after police let a woman out on bail who’s accused of killing a retired army officer in a hit-and-run. Surbhi Maheswari is the woman’s name. This happened on August 15, 2025, when 64-year-old Captain Narsa Ram Jajra was hit by an SUV while riding his bike on Gandhi Path. Cops used CCTV to figure out who she was, and she took off after hitting him. They got her car and canceled her driver’s license, but folks are still upset about the bail thing and are asking if justice will really be served when it comes to safety on the roads.

What Happened

Around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Captain Jajra was doing his usual morning bike ride when a speeding SUV hit him. Witnesses and police said it was from behind. He got dragged under the car for a bit before the driver sped off, leaving him super hurt.

His son was nearby and found him. He got some people to help him take his dad to the hospital, but he passed away.

How Police Found Her

A camera from a shop caught the whole thing. Police saw it and were able to tell it was a white SUV and figure out who was driving. That’s how they found and arrested Surbhi Maheswari.

She got arrested, and they took her car. But people are wondering about the bail.

Why People Are Angry

Everyone’s asking how she could get bail when someone died, it was all on camera, and she ran away.

The law says police can give bail for some offenses. Hit-and-runs usually get filed under lighter charges, like reckless driving or causing death without wanting to. You can get bail for these things. But some legal people think that if you run away after hitting someone, it should be a more serious charge where you can’t get bail.

The Reaction

People in the area protested. They want the woman punished and want the police to do more to make the roads safer. They say Gandhi Path is dangerous because people drive too fast there, and they want speed bumps and more police around so this doesn’t happen again.

One person said they want justice for Captain Jajra and that the area is a death trap. They don’t understand how someone can get bail after a bad accident like this. They think it’s a bad example.

Road Safety Problems

This whole thing shows how unsafe roads are in India. Every year, lots of people die in accidents, and many are hit-and-runs.

People think drivers aren’t held responsible enough and that the rules aren’t strict enough. What happens in this case will show if the justice system can handle these deadly hit-and-run situations.

The captain’s son and family are helping the police. They are waiting for the final report from the medical examiner and the end of the investigation before they decide what to do next with the case.
