One Terrorist Killed in Kulgam Anti-Terror Operation, Operation Akhal Still in Progress
KULGAM, Jammu and Kashmir – August 2, 2025: A terrorist was killed in the Akhal forest area of Kulgam district, South Kashmir, after a gunfight broke out Friday evening. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are working together on this operation, and they are still searching the thick forest.
How the Operation Started
Operation Akhal, the code name for this counter-insurgency, started on Friday, August 1, 2025. Security forces had received good info about terrorists being in the area. The joint team then set up a cordon and started searching to find the militants.
According to a police official, the search party was shot at by the terrorists who were hiding, which led to a tough fight. The security forces fired back right away and blocked off the area to stop the militants from getting away.

Terrorist Confirmed Dead
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps posted on X (previously Twitter) on Saturday morning that one terrorist had been killed. The post said that security forces had killed one terrorist so far and that the operation was still going on.
Officials haven’t said yet who the terrorist was or what group he belonged to. Sources say that there might be more terrorists hiding in the area, possibly foreigners.
Throughout the night, there was intense firing on and off as security forces stayed in contact with the terrorists. Because it was dark, the operation was stopped for a while, but it started up again with more force when it got light.
Background on Anti-Terror Operations
The Kulgam fight is the latest in a string of anti-terror operations in Jammu and Kashmir. After recent terror attacks, such as the one in Pahalgam, the security forces have increased their counter-terrorism efforts.
Just days before the Kulgam fight, security forces killed all three terrorists who were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack in a fight in the Dachigam area, which is close to Srinagar. Nalin Prabhat, the JK Director General of Police, had recently gone to Kulgam to check on the security situation. He told his forces to recalibrate the counter-terrorism offensive to go after Pakistani terrorists.
These ongoing operations show that Indian security forces are dedicated to keeping peace and stability in the area. The security situation is still a top priority, and officials have repeated that they need to stay watchful and take action early.
