Terrible Cloudburst in J&K’s Chositi: Worries of 10 Deaths on Machail Mata Trip Route
KISHTWAR, Jammu & Kashmir – August 14, 2025:A really bad cloudburst just hit the far-off village of Chositi in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. Sadly, about 10 people are feared dead. This awful thing happened on Thursday along the dangerous path to the Machail Mata Yatra. Big flash floods and landslides happened, washing away houses and buildings. The Indian Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local police are all working hard to rescue people. It’s tough because the area is hard to get to, which makes it difficult to reach people and figure out how bad things really are.
First News and What Officials Say
Sunil Kumar Sharma, a local MLA, first told everyone about the disaster. He contacted Dr. Jitendra Singh, a Union Minister of State. Dr. Singh said on social media that the cloudburst could cause big losses and that the government was already helping.
Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, said he was very sad about what happened. He told officials from different groups to make rescue operations stronger and to help everyone they can. Even though they don’t have official numbers yet, local officials think that up to 10 people might have died in the floods.

Rescue Teams Face Tricky Situations
The village of Chositi is in the mountains, so it’s really hard to get to. Rescue teams are dealing with risky situations like destroyed roads and shaky hills to get to the area. Their main goal is to find and save anyone alive and find the bodies of those who died.
The cloudburst has also messed up the Machail Mata shrine trip since Chositi is on the way. Officials are trying to keep pilgrims safe who might be stuck or caught in the flood.
Bad Things Have Happened Here Before
This sad event reminds us of other cloudbursts that have caused problems in the Kishtwar district. Back in July 2021, something similar happened in Honzer village, where seven people died and others went missing. These things keep happening, which shows that the area is easily affected by weather disasters. We really need better ways to handle these situations.
As the rescue efforts continue tonight, it’s unclear what will happen to those missing. Right now, everyone is working together to save as many people as they can and help the communities that were affected.
