Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ Shines Bright, Outpaces ‘Fanaa’ & ‘Rang De Basanti’ in Advance Bookings

MUMBAI, India – June 19, 2025 – Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the highly anticipated Bollywood flick “Sitaare Zameen Par” starring Aamir Khan has set its hullabaloo brewing before its presentation in cinemas. The advance booking collections on Day 1 reportedly surpassed the opening day collections of two of Khan’s earlier blockbusters, “Fanaa” and “Rang De Basanti,” reflecting well on the anticipations of the audience regarding the return of Khan onto the big screen, along with an opening of possibly gigantic proportions.

Impressive Advance Sales

As of Thursday, June 19, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ has reportedly accumulated an incredible ₹4.6 crore in advance booking amounts, in India, for opening day (including block seats). The Hindi version has seen a large chunk of this, with over ₹1.44 crore coming in from 47,604 tickets sold for 7,456 shows. The film is also seeing traction down south, with the Telugu version contributing ₹8.87 lakh and the Tamil version ₹1.34 lakh.

This number easily eclipses the Day 1 figure from all Aamir Khan blocks previously mentioned:

  • Fanaa, 2006: A Day 1 collection of about ₹3.96 crore.
  • Rang De Basanti, 2006: An opening day collection of about ₹3.12 crore.

With R.S. Prasanna directing the movie and Genelia D’Souza making her grand comeback into mainstream Hindi cinema, all this resounding pre-sale news simply indicates huge hype about the film.

Sitaare Zameen Par: Buzz and Thematic Appeal

The emotional sports drama is an official remake of the Spanish film ‘Champions,’ which tells the inspiring story of a basketball coach who trains a team of players with disabilities. The film has already received rave reviews from special screenings, reportedly from cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar and renowned author Sudha Murty, for its arresting story and performances.

Reports state that Aamir Khan has taken a huge gamble on the film by banking on its emotional appeal and theatrical exclusivity, turning down a lucrative ₹120 crore offer for its digital rights from Prime Video so that the earnings through theatres will increase; if successful, this could set an unprecedented trend for the release strategy of the film industry.

Industry Expectations and Outlook

The movie is attracting uncanny excitement among analysts and trade authorities watching it, as it enters theaters on June 20, 2025. Some early reports had indicated modest initial advance bookings, but latest figures concerning mainly block bookings suggest a healthy opening now. According to the latest numbers from industry tracker Sacnilk, the film could earn gross amounts of about ₹3.61 crore on day 1 (excluding all block bookings data); this is considered as a good beginning. However, the newly reported ₹4.6 crore combined figure has elevated expectations once again.

Singularly, Aamir Khan will have a lot riding on how well the flick does, given that it comes on the heels of the last theatrical release, Laal Singh Chaddha. A successful opening for Sitaare Zameen Par would re-establish his box office pull and be a big boost to the industry. The sustained success of the film will depend heavily upon good word-of-mouth inducing spot bookings over its opening weekend.

When booking within a region, reports have Delhi leading with ₹24.09 lakh, followed closely by Maharashtra at ₹15.73 lakh, and Telangana at ₹12.47 lakh. This shows the all-India appeal of the film.
