Army Jawan Tied to Pole, Brutally Beaten by Toll Workers in UP; 4 Arrested

MEERUT, Uttar Pradesh, India – August 18, 2025:In an awful act of violence, an Indian Army soldier was reportedly tied to a pole and badly beaten by toll plaza workers in Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh. This thing happened late Sunday night, supposedly because of a fight about the toll fee. The soldier, named Kapil Kavad, was on his way to Delhi airport to head back to duty in Srinagar when it all went down at the Bhuni Toll Plaza on the Meerut-Karnal highway. A video of the beating blew up on social media, so the cops acted fast and arrested four people connected to the crime.

What Happened: A Fight Turned Violent

According to what the soldier’s dad told the Saroorpur police, Kapil Kavad and his cousin were passing through the toll plaza when a big argument started. The soldier apparently told the toll workers that his village, being close to the plaza, didn’t have to pay the toll. This supposedly made the toll employees mad, and they started hitting him.

The video shows the toll workers holding Kavad and tying his hands to a pole before beating him hard with sticks. When his cousin tried to step in, he was also reportedly hit. This situation shows how defense personnel and toll plaza staff keep clashing, usually because of misunderstandings about who’s allowed to skip the toll.

Cops Act Quick, Make Arrests

Local police were sent to the scene after the beating video went viral. Acting on the complaint, Meerut Police started looking into it right away. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohit Singh Sajwan said that a police report had been filed based on what the soldier’s dad said.

Just hours after the complaint, police caught four people who were supposedly part of the beating. The police are also checking security footage from the toll plaza to find more proof and see if anyone else was involved. The arrested guys have been charged with assault, unlawful confinement, and rioting.

What This Means and Past Cases

This isn’t the only time something like this has happened. There have been several reports of toll plaza staff treating defense personnel badly, even though the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has told them not to. The Indian Tolls (Army and Air Force) Act of 1901 says that all members of the armed forces don’t have to pay tolls, but toll staff often don’t believe them because they say they don’t have the right papers or don’t recognize military IDs.

The Indian Army has always taken these situations seriously. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has told toll operators over and over to treat military personnel with respect. But because some toll plaza employees aren’t trained well and act aggressively, the rules are being broken, sometimes with violent results.
