ANOTHER BITS PILANI GOA STUDENT DEADFOURTH IN NINE MONTHS

PANJIM, Goa, India – August 17, 2025:Kushagra Jain, a 20-year-old at BITS Pilani K. K. Birla Goa Campus, was found dead in his room Saturday, August 16, 2025. This is the fourth student death at the school in just nine months. The Verna Police are calling it an unnatural death and are investigating. The school put out a statement saying he passed away in his sleep. Kushagra was a third-year student in computer science and economics and was known to be a good student. His dad got worried when he couldn’t reach him and asked Kushagra’s friends to check on him. This has brought up worries again about how students are doing at the college.

How He Was Found

His dad couldn’t get ahold of him, so he called his son’s friends.

When the friends got to Kushagra’s room, it was locked. They told the hostel staff. The warden and security got the room open and found Kushagra in bed not responding. The school’s doctors came and said he was dead at about 11 a.m. Saturday.

A police officer said that Kushagra had been playing table tennis the night before and then went back to his room. They don’t know how he died yet, but a post-mortem exam was scheduled for Sunday.

School’s Response

Arjun Halarnkar, the school’s PR person, said that everyone at BITS Pilani was very sad and that Kushagra was found not responding in his bed.

The statement said that the doctors said he died in his sleep. The school also said they would help the police with their investigation.

This version of events is different from what happened the three times before since December 2024; deaths were ruled as suicides then. Now, the university is being watched very closely.

A Worrying Trend

This death is part of a scary trend at BITS Pilani Goa. The three students who died before this one all killed themselves between December 2024 and May 2025.

In December 2024, Om Priyan Singh, 21, died by suicide. Then, in March 2025, Atharv Desai, 20, also killed himself.

The third one was Krishna Kasera, 20, from Lucknow, who killed himself in May 2025. These deaths had already made people angry and made the school react.

What’s Causing This?

After the three suicides, BITS Pilani started looking into things and said they would do things to help students deal with stress and mental health. They said they would change the curriculum and get more counselors.

The school also started a 24/7 mental health hotline and weekly appointments with psychiatrists. These things were supposed to help with the heavy schoolworkthat many students and families said was a big reason for the suicides.

Even with these changes, this new death has people asking if those things are really helping. People are wondering if the hard schoolwork and student life are being handled well enough.

Investigation and Reaction

The Verna Police are checking everything to find out how Kushagra died. They are waiting for the post-mortem results to see if he died from natural causes.

This sudden death has shocked everyone at BITS Pilani. Students, teachers, and alumni are sad and want the school to be more open and responsible.

Many students have talked about their worries on social media. They say there’s too much stress from schoolwork and that there needs to be better and easier mental health help on campus. The local community wants a fair investigation, too.

Student Suicides in India

What’s happening at BITS Pilani is not the only case. Student suicides are a problem all over India, especially in tough academic places.

Schools like the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and coaching centers in Kota have been looked at closely because of more student suicides. The reasons are usually complicated, with things like school pressure, family expectations, being alone, and not enough mental health help all playing a part.

This new death at BITS Pilani shows that even though people are talking about this and schools are making promises, the problems are still there and need more real effort from everyone involved.
