Mumbai Gets Ready for More Rain; Orange Alert Issued

MUMBAI, India – August 18, 2025:Mumbai is bracing for more rain as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) just issued an orange alert for the city. They’re saying we could see heavy to very heavy rain in some spots. This comes after a really wet weekend that messed things up big time. We’re talking flooded streets, crazy traffic, and, sadly, two people died. Because of the new rain threat, the city is getting its act together and telling everyone to be careful.

What the IMD Is Saying

The IMD’s orange alert means there’s a good chance of heavy rain, which could lead to some flooding and make life difficult. Apparently, all this is because of a low-pressure thingy over in the Bay of Bengal. This is supposed to bring rain all over the Konkan area, and Mumbai is right in the thick of it. The IMD also said to watch out for some strong winds, maybe around 40-50 kmph.

Weekend Chaos

The last downpour really did a number on the city. Places like Andheri Subway, Hindmata, Kings Circle, and Sion were underwater, so major roads and subways had to close. The rain also messed up the train system, which is a huge deal for Mumbai. Trains were late, and some were canceled because the tracks were flooded. To make things worse, a landslide in Vikhroli killed two people and injured two others.

City’s Response

The city is doing what it can to deal with the situation. They’ve turned on all the water pumps in the usual flood spots and told everyone to be ready. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is also on standby in case anything bad happens, like landslides or buildings falling down. The city is telling people to listen to the official advice, not go near flooded areas, and stay inside if they don’t have to go out.

Getting Around (or Not)

Commuters should be ready for another tough day. Trains will probably be late, and buses might have to change their routes because of the flooded roads. The police are telling drivers to stay away from the areas that usually flood and to drive carefully. The rain is even messing with the airport. Airlines are telling people to give themselves extra time to get there because of the traffic.
