CDS Anil Chauhan Reiterates Firm Military Readiness as Operation Sindoor Continues
NEW DELHI, India – July 26, 2025: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan asserted Friday that “Operation Sindoor” remains an operation in peacetime military terms and that India’s level of military preparedness must remain “very high” through the 24/7, 365 days of the year. Addressing a defense seminar in New Delhi, the CDS noted the critical importance of constant vigilance and operational readiness, saying there are no runners-up in war.
Operation Sindoor: Continuing Action Against Terrorism
Operation Sindoor was activated by India on May 7, 2025, directly following the Pahalgam terror strike on April 22, 2025, that had led to the brutal murder of 26 innocent tourists. It aims primarily at dismantling and neutralizing terrorist infrastructure and terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) as being prepared for infiltration into India.
First strikes, termed by the government as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” took place on nine terror infrastructures from outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. On May 10, 2025, a ceasefire understanding was reached after four days of intense fighting. However, these latest comments by CDS Chauhan imply that the operation remains ongoing, albeit possibly in a different form.

Evolution of Warfare and the Future Warrior
In the address delivered at a seminar with the subject of aerospace power: Preserving India’s sovereignty and furthering national interests, General Chauhan made the observation that the world is poised for what might well prove to be its last revolution in military warfare. The new world is not a full blend of kinetic with non-kinetic means but a close integration of all those traditional means across tactical, operational, and strategic levels.
The CDS pointed out that the future military must learn to develop “information warriors, technology warriors, and scholar warriors.” In other words, he said that a modern soldier must be a blend of all three, mastering multi-domain operations and fighting on the invisible battlefield of cognition against misinformation and developing narratives.

Continuous Military Exercises and Parliamentary Discussion
At the time of General Chauhan’s pronouncements, a massive air exercise was going on along the border districts of Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Jodhpur, being conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF). This three-day exercise, which commenced on July 23, 2025, involves fighter jets, namely the Rafale, Sukhoi-30MKI, Mirage 2000, and Jaguar, in both day and night sorties to test operational readiness and strategic capabilities. A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has also been issued to restrict civilian air traffic, ensuring that military operations remain uninterrupted.
The Indian Parliament will also hold intense discussions next week regarding Operation Sindoor. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to open the argument in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, whereas Prime Minister Narendra Modi may also engage with the whole aspect in the Rajya Sabha. These procedures of Parliament will be the basis of further clarification and debate on the operation’s specifics and its clear correlation with national security.
